Technician Grade III - Computer Based Test
Recruitment for Technician Grade III posts across railway trades. Unlike the NTPC examinations, the single computer based test counts directly toward merit rather than acting as a screening stage, and General Science dominates the paper at 40 of its 100 questions.

Eligibility
Class 10 pass together with an ITI qualification or a completed Act Apprenticeship in the relevant trade, as listed per post in the notification. A diploma or degree in engineering is not accepted in place of these, and a graduate Act Apprentice is not accepted in place of a completed Act Apprenticeship.
18 to 30 years, reckoned as on the date stated in the notification.
Selection Process
- Computer Based Test — 100 questions for 100 marks in 90 minutes. Unlike the NTPC examinations this single test counts toward merit rather than screening.
- Document Verification — Called at the number of vacancies. Ties are broken in favour of the older candidate, then alphabetically by given name rather than surname.
- Medical Examination — Against the standard prescribed for the trade, which ranges from A-3 for Track Machine through B-1 for most fitter and electrical trades to C-1 for workshop trades.

Qualifying Marks
Minimum percentages: 40 per cent for UR and EWS, 30 per cent for OBC-NCL and SC, and 25 per cent for ST. Relaxable by 2 marks for PwBD candidates where reserved vacancies fall short.

Only two recent cycles are available, which is too thin to establish a stable annual pattern. The preceding cycle was notified in March 2024 with its test held in December 2024.

How are ties broken?
The older candidate ranks higher; if ages are equal, names are ordered alphabetically by given name rather than surname.
